Planning & Development
Current Applications
Rosewell & District Community Council is consulted on planning applications that may have a significant impact on our area. This includes larger housing proposals, changes of use, infrastructure works and other developments that could affect local amenity, traffic, environment or community facilities.
While we are not part of Midlothian Council’s Planning Authority, we have a statutory right to be consulted on certain applications and to submit comments that reflect the views of the community.
At our meetings, we review relevant applications and discuss:
- The scale and nature of the proposal
- Potential impact on roads, parking and traffic
- Effects on neighbouring properties
- Environmental considerations
- Consistency with the Local Development Plan
Details of current planning applications affecting Rosewell & District can be viewed on Midlothian Council’s planning portal. Where appropriate, we will also highlight significant applications on our website and meeting agendas.
If you wish to raise any matters relating to a planning application, please contact the Community Council using our published contact details so that we can consider your views.
Major Developments
Major developments are typically defined as larger-scale proposals such as:
- Significant housing developments
- Commercial or industrial sites
- Renewable energy installations
- Infrastructure projects
- Proposals affecting protected or sensitive land
These types of applications can have long-term impacts on the character and infrastructure of our village. As a statutory consultee, the Community Council may submit formal representations on such proposals after discussing them at a public meeting.
We encourage residents to stay informed and to participate in consultation events arranged by developers, as well as submitting their own comments directly to Midlothian Council. Community input plays an important role in shaping outcomes.
